Infrastructure Sector Reforms
Addressing rural poverty requires an integrated approach. Integrated rural development underpins ICEED’s activities in linking access to
sustainable energy services and improved water supply. Our work seeks to unleash potentials in innovative service delivery models that include community-based approaches, micro, small and medium entrepreneurship
in energy service delivery.
Rural Energy Management
Access to energy services is crucial to improving living conditions and stimulating growth in rural areas. ICEED has over the years of its establishment become a leading provider of ideas and strategies for promoting access to energy services. We assist in creating arena for partnership between levels of Government, businesses and international agencies.
ICEED has contributed to the development of the rural electrification component of the power sector reforms in Nigeria; and has become a dependable partner for the Federal Government and international agencies on rural electrification, improved woodstoves dissemination, solar and small hydro development and promotion of biogas technology in Nigeria.
Renewable Energy Market Development
ICEED has been a leading player in the development of the Renewable Energy Master Plan for Nigeria and coordinates the Federal Government’s Renewable Energy
Program for Power Generation.
Together with agencies like the World Bank, UNDP, Winrock International and Pembina Institute for Appropriate Development of Canada, ICEED has over the years helped in building a strong partnership for the promotion of renewable energy in Nigeria.
Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism
Climate change poses great challenges to our ability to reduce poverty. The poor are dependent on vulnerable land and water resources. Changes in climatic patterns undermine the poor’s ability to subsist and improve their asset base.
ICEED is part of an international network of consultants, research centers and NGOs working on the linkage between poverty and climate change. We explore opportunities for attracting investments in small-scale private sector driven and community based energy service enterprises through the Clean Development Mechanism.
Integrated Water Resources Management
Access to good quality water supply is crucial to reducing the burden of disease and achieving the Millennium Development Goals. ICEED
played an important role in the development of the Water Resources Management Strategy for Nigeria. We have over the years conducted policy research and project management services to the water sector in Nigeria.
Key water supply and sanitation clients have been the Department for International Development, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the European Commission.
