Prof. Richard Olayiwola Fagbenle

Professor Fagbenle is an ICEED Senior Associate and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He obtained a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA.

Prof Fagbenle, a leading energy expert, is involved in several national and international energy projects and programmes. He was the first Director of Energy Affairs in the Republic of Botswana and later the Energy Advisor to the government in 1998 - 2002.

He has been actively involved in Nigeria’s energy sector as Consultant on several national projects, among which are: the Renewable Energy Master Plan (REMP); the National Energy Master Plan (NEMP); Renewable Electricity Action Programme; World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) project on Nigeria; Canadian Government’s Clean Development Mechanism Small Projects Facility for Nigeria.

Prof Fagbenle is on Nigeria’s climate change negotiating team as an Adviser on Technology Transfer issues.
