A coalition of 14 global organizations, led by the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA), has unveiled The Buyer’s Guide to High-Quality Cookstove Carbon Credits at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The guide aims to help corporate buyers make informed investments in cookstove carbon credits, ensuring their financial commitments drive tangible climate and social impact. The launch event, hosted by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and CCA, brought together key leaders in energy, carbon finance, and corporate sustainability, reinforcing the role of clean cooking projects in emission reduction and community welfare.
The cookstove carbon credit market has gained significant traction, particularly with its potential contribution to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Industry experts highlighted how advancements in digital tracking and strict monitoring frameworks have enhanced the credibility of clean cooking projects. Margaret Kim, CEO of Gold Standard, emphasized ongoing improvements in clean cooking methodologies, while Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos underscored the need for independent verification to build trust in the market. Companies like Wren and Climate Impact Partners shared their commitment to scaling investments in high-quality cookstove projects that reduce emissions and improve energy access.
The Buyer’s Guide builds upon the Principles for Responsible Carbon Finance in Clean Cooking, a framework endorsed by over 180 organizations globally. Industry leaders believe the guide can catalyze channeling billions of dollars into sustainable energy solutions for developing nations. CCA CEO Dymphna van der Lans described the launch as a reaffirmation of collective efforts to strengthen carbon markets. "With this Buyer’s Guide, the way forward is clear," she stated, emphasizing the role of cookstove credits in reducing emissions, addressing energy poverty, and improving public health worldwide.

The International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development Foundation is committed to the goal of poverty eradication. We deliver this commitment by providing the evidence base for reforms and political influence that shape the poor's energy and climate security. ICEED has over the years of its establishment become Nigeria's leading centre on energy access and climate change. Together with some of the world's foremost resource centres, we have brought market development expertise, capacity building, project implementation and behaviour communication to Nigeria. ICEED has led some of the most important clean energy and climate change activities including the development and promotion of the Bill to Establish the National Climate Change Commission; leading the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory for Nigeria and writing the Federal Government of Nigeria's Renewable Energy Master Plan. Our key expertise is in policy reform and market development for expanding access to clean energy.
While ICEED provides the evidence base and advocacy for policy change on clean energy and climate change, the Centre is solidly on the ground changing lives through projects in communities around the country. ICEED has clean energy footprints in communities in over half of the states of the Nigerian federation.
